CalmFlights

About CalmFlights

CalmFlights exists for one reason: roughly 1 in 4 adults is afraid of flying, yet every flight-search site ranks flights only by price and duration. We rank them by what actually drives the in-flight experience — turbulence forecast, weather at both airports, the specific aircraft model, and the operating airline's safety record.

How we score flights

Our comfort score combines four signals: upper-air turbulence from NOAA's Graphical Turbulence Guidance, surface weather from Open-Meteo for both airports, the aircraft type's known smoothness and in-service history, and the airline's independent safety rating. The score is normalised 0–10 and refreshed regularly.

What we are not

We are not an airline, travel agent or insurer. Our scores are comfort estimates, not safety predictions — commercial flying is statistically the safest mode of long-distance travel and the difference between "calmest" and "bumpiest" flight on a given day is about how the ride feels, not whether it's safe.

Who builds this

CalmFlights is built by a small independent team. We pay for our own data sources and earn referral commission when you book a flight through one of our partners — this never changes the price you pay.
